Epoxy Floor Coating Brands: Can You Recommend One?

Which of the many epoxy floor coating brands would we recommend? We wouldn’t recommend a specific brand… for a variety of reasons.

But in this video, Dallas, Project Manager at Motorcity Floors and Coatings, shares practical recommendations based on specifications rather than brand.

“There’s a lot of floor coatings out there. A lot of them can do very well, but from my experience, especially on our residential side, polyurea and polyaspartic are the best, most superior quality.

They dry faster, they last longer. You’re going to get a way better warranty with them, and you still get the same exact look of an epoxy type coating. However, you’ll run into a lot less issues and it’s a lot easier to clean.

I am not super familiar with the Home Depot or the Lowe’s or the Menards type brands [as a flooring contractor, MotorCity has its own direct relationships with professional epoxy & paint suppliers]… but I’d say the most important thing to consider is to make sure you’re getting a nice solid base coat that is 100% solids.

What that means is, if it was 90% solids, for example, I’d mix up one gallon of paint, which would be a hundred percent by volume. But when I install it, when it dries and evaporates and turns from a liquid to a solid, you’re going to lose 10% to evaporation, which in turn just affects the strength of it.

So I’d say 100% solids is the most important thing to look for, to make sure you have a proper base coat 100% solids. And then, a proper sealer or a top coat that’s also a 100% solids.”

The type of floor application will ultimately determine the type of floor coating you need. Many epoxy floor coating brands offer great products, and it wouldn’t be wise for us to recommend a specific brand for your project because… we don’t know your project and its circumstances.
